Strata-G is seeking an experienced Fire Protection Engineer with the following:

Summary:

  • Stops work without fear of reprisal for unsafe conditions potentially affecting personnel safety or environmental risk.
  • Provides NFPA fire protection code interpretations and determines the applicability of NFPA fire codes and standards to work activities and facilities.
  • Provides engineering evaluation of client proposed changes to site fire protection systems that may impact work facilities.
  • Conducts design review and approvals and approves facility modifications as they relate to fire protection and life safety.
  • Reviews and approves all new fire protection and life safety features as they relate to system installations.
  • Provides support and compensatory measures for planned/unplanned impairments to fire protection systems.
  • Prepares, reviews and revises (when necessary) fire hazard analyses, assessments and other fire safety documentation.
  • Evaluates and assists in controlling the adequacy of facility design and occupancy in accordance with FP criteria and recommends changes as applicable.
  • Prepares and reviews requests for fire safety exemptions and equivalencies.
  • Prepares and revises fire protection procedures.
  • Participates in special assignments and performs assessments related to fire protection.
  • Assists in the planning, reviewing, and editing of work packages for applicable fire protection issues and controls.
  • Ensures that appropriate fire protection requirements are included in work control packages.
  • Supports day-to-day operations (e.g., provide FPE consultations to operations, hot work permitting, fixed weld shop permitting).
    Functions as a safety system engineer for the facility fire protection systems in accordance with the System Engineering Program in
    applicable DOE Orders for a hazard category 2 nuclear facility.
  • Interprets requirements and implements associated safeguards to mitigate risk associated with the use, handling, and storage of hazardous materials.
    Performs NFPA 801 inspections monthly and document surveillance.
  • Supports the execution of Integrated Safety Management System (ISMS) guiding principles and core functions and Safety Culture.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office.

Strong communication, verbal and written skills.

Ability to describe the essential fire safety principles, requirements, relationships and importance of the applicable DOE Orders and Standards with respect to fire protection issues and responsibilities.

Fire Protection Engineering Degree preferred, or comparable experience.

Minimum of 2-5 years' experience.

DOE experience preferred.
